We wanted to eat something really light and make something quick. So thought of making vathal kozhambu.Recipe follows,
Ingredients
1 -2 table spoon Manathankaalikai
1 tsp Channa dhal
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 table spoon Sambar powder
2 tsp spoon tamarind paste
1 tsp turmeric powder
Asafoetida to taste
salt to taste
1 tbl spoon sesame oil
2 tsp Rice flour to thicken the liquid
Method
In a vessel add sesame oil, mustard seeds and channa dhal and allow to splutter.
Add the manathakaalikai and fry for a minute.
Add sambar powder, turmeric powder and around 2 cups water
Add the tamarind paste,salt and allow it to boil till the raw smell goes away.
Once the raw smell goes away, mix the rice flour with some water and make it a paste.
Add the paste to the Kozhambu and mix well till it thickens.
Serve hot with Rice and Ghee.

This with some thair saadam is comfort food at its best.
I make vatha kuzhambu in a similar way too.
